Defending the crown

Kasson-Mantorville coach Jamie Heidt has found himself sitting back and observing his wrestling room often over the past week.

As someone who loves getting on the mat and teaching, Heidt usually is far more than an observer.

But much like his athletes, Heidt is trying to soak up and enjoy every last bit of this 2016-17 wrestling season.

Heidt also is trying to mentally prepare for the loss of a senior class that has taken the K-M wrestling program to new heights. Seniors Keaten Schorr, Noah Ryan, Brady Laumb, Isaac Haman and Brady Berge helped lead the KoMets to the program’s second state title last season. They’ve also led K- M into uncharted territory.
