IRVING, Texas — North Dakota State University placed five student-athletes on the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Wrestling team released Thursday, March 2, by the conference office.
Forty-two members comprise the first team, including North Dakota State 157-pound redshirt junior Clay Ream (Wentzville, Mo.), who was nominated with 4.0 grade point averages, while 20 selections make up the second team.
Joining Ream on the Academic All-Big 12 Wrestling first team are 149-pound redshirt junior Mitch Friedman (Oconto Falls, Wis.) and 197-pound redshirt freshman Cordell Eaton (Long Grove, Iowa). NDSU 125-pound redshirt senior Josh Rodriguez (Guadalupe, Calif.) and 184-pound redshirt freshman Tyler McNutt (Saint Joseph, Mo.) were on the second team.
Ream, Friedman and McNutt are repeat selections.
The Academic All-Big 12 Wrestling team features 21 student-athletes from Conference member institutions Iowa State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and West Virginia, while student-athletes from the league’s affiliate members in the sport — Air Force, Northern Colorado, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming — total 41 selections
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
