NDSU Prepares for Big 12 Wrestling Championships March 4-5 in Tulsa

North Dakota State is scheduled to compete at the Big 12 Wrestling Champions on Saturday, March 4, and Sunday, March 5, at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla. … Sunday’s championship round begins at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast by Fox Sports Southwest.

The Big 12 Conference received the third highest amount of automatic qualifier spots, as the 10-team wrestling league will send 38 of its grapplers to the NCAA Championships via automatic bids … The breakdown of the 38 automatic bids per weight class for the Big 12 Championship is as follows: 125 (4), 133 (4), 141 (4), 149 (4), 157 (3), 165 (5), 174 (3), 184 (2), 197 (5), 285 (4).

North Dakota State 184-pound Hayden Zillmer was runner-up, while 125 Josh Rodriguez and 149 Clay Ream both placed third at the Big 12 Wrestling Championships on March 5-6 at the Sprint Center in Kansas City … NDSU 285 Ben Tynan was fifth and 141 Mitch Bengtson placed sixth … Oklahoma State won the tournament with 161 points, while NDSU finished seventh in the team standings with 62.5 points.

North Dakota State’s 14 duals wins this season are the most during the Division I era and third best all-time … The previous Division I high was 11 wins achieved twice in 2007-08 (11-9) and 2013-14 (11-7) … The program record is 16 wins (16-0) achieved during the 1991-92 season, while the 1971-72 team went 15-1.
