Minnesota State Travels to Rochester to Open Tournament Season

MANKATO, Minn. — The Minnesota State wrestling team is ready to begin its season at the RCTC Yellowjacket Open this Saturday in Rochester, Minn.

For the third consecutive year, the Mavericks will take to the mats at the early-season tournament in Rochester, Minn. Minnesota State has enjoyed much success at the Yellowjacket Open and has used the tournament to jump-start its season.

manklogo The Mavericks had four wrestlers finish in the top-three places in Rochester last season. Anthony Heng (R-Fr., 125 lbs.) came away with a 4-0 record and a first-place finish at the open. Both Neil Clement (R-Fr., 157 lbs.) and Matthew Blome (So., 197 lbs.) gained second place finishes while wrestling to 3-1 and 2-1 records respectively. Meanwhile, Derek Herman (R-Fr., 174 lbs.) wrestled back to a third-place finish, compiling a 4-1 record.

Minnesota State enters the 2017-18 season in a tie for third in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, and are also in a tie for 16th in the DII NWCA preseason poll.
