Minnesota Wrestling Announces 2017 Promotions

The University of Minnesota wrestling team is excited to announce the promotional schedule for the 2017-18 season, which includes a variety of activities and ticket promotions.

On Sunday, Nov. 12 as Air Force will take the mat in Maturi Pavilion for the home opener. The Gophers will host their first of three pre-match youth clinics for youth 8th grade and under. To sign up for the entire season click here. In addition, this will be the first of two High School Days.

High schools can send in their roster to gsm@umn.edu to receive free admission for high school athletes and coaching staff. Lastly, it is St. Michael-Albertville Area, Maple Grove, and Anoka Community Day. For Community Day discounted tickets click here.

minnlogoAt each home event, the Gophers will host a special guest, starting with Logan Storley against Air Force. Storley, who was a four-time All-American for the Gophers, is a rising and undefeated mixed martial arts fighter with Bellator.

The Gophers will take nearly a month off before returning home on Dec. 10 to take on Fresno State. The Bulldogs recently revived their wrestling program, and the dual with Minnesota will be the first true Division I road dual for the program. Youth clubs can submit their youth roster (8th grade and under) to receive free admittance into the match. In addition, the public will be able to meet the entire 2017-18 wrestling team and will be able to request autographs. It will also be Inver Grove Heights and Eden Prairie Community Day.

To kick off 2018, Minnesota will host Michigan State on Jan. 7 at Maturi Pavilion. This will be the second option for fans to be able to sign up for a pre-match youth clinic. The dual with Michigan State will also double as the start of the rugged Big Ten season. Lastly, we will celebrate Prior Lake, Apple Valley, Lakeville, and Shakopee Community Days.

A week later on Jan. 14, Minnesota will host the Fighting Illini of Illinois for Military Appreciation Night. At this dual, clubs eighth grade and under are able to send in their roster to receive free admission. The team will then also host New Prague, Le Sueur, and Waterville Community Day.

Michigan will travel to Minneapolis on Jan. 21 for a huge Big Ten dual in the middle of the conference season. Fans will be able to sign up and participate in our pre-match youth clinic, and high schools are able to send their roster in to receive free admission for the last High School Day. The Gophers will also host a Goldy’s Kids Club Day and honor Rochester, Kasson-Mantorville, and Lake City communities for Community Day. This will also be the last match where fans can meet the wrestlers during a post-match autograph session.

The last chance to see the Gophers at Maturi Pavilion will be on Jan. 28 when the Gophers host Northwestern. Senior Night will see six seniors honored including Chris Pfarr, Nate Rose, Jordon Rothers, Jake Short, Nate Thomas and Nick Wanzek. Clubs eighth grade and under are invited to receive free admission at the final dual of the 2017-18 season The final Community Day will feature Arlington and Sunburg.
