BROOKINGS, S.D. – North Dakota State 165-pounder Andrew Fogarty and unattached 285 Brandon Metz each placed third to highlight the NDSU effort on Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open hosted by South Dakota State.
Four of the 13 NDSU wrestlers competing placed in the top five overall. Joining Fogarty and Metz were unattached 133-pounder Sawyer Degen, who placed fourth, and unattached 174 Jesse Shearer, who finished fifth.
Fogarty, a redshirt sophomore from Jordan, Minn., compiled a 5-1 record including four major decisions and a tech fall. He defeated unattached Zach Carlson 12-1 in the third-place match.
Metz, a freshman from West Fargo, N.D., won five of six matches at the Open including a pair of pins and a major decision. He picked up his second pin at 43-seconds, over Nebraska’s David Jensen in the third place matchup.
Degen, a freshman from Belgrade, Mont., compiled a 4-2 with one pin. Both losses came to Nebraska’s Brian Peska including a 6-5 decision in the third-place match.
Shearer, a freshman that wrestled at West Fargo, dropped his first match but rallied five straight wins including a pair of falls to end the afternoon.
North Dakota State is scheduled to host the 47th annual Bison Open at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Scheels Center.
