NDSU’s Fogarty, Eaton Each Claim Third Titles at Bison Open

FARGO, N.D. — North Dakota State University 165-pounder Andrew Fogarty and 197 Cordell Eaton each won their third title, while 157-pounder Clay Ream claimed his second at the 47th annual Bison Open before 647 spectators at Scheels Center in the Sanford Health Complex.

North Dakota State is scheduled to open the dual season at No. 7-ranked Iowa at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, and at No. 13 Northern Iowa at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19.

Fogarty rolled up a 4-0 record in claiming his third Bison Open championship including a 9-0 major decision over South Dakota State’s Logan Peterson. He had a pair of major decisions, one tech fall and his first pin of the season. Fogarty improved to 9-1 this season.

ndsulogo Eaton was bullish with three major decisions in three matches including 15-4 win over unattached Chase O’Connor. It was Eaton’s first action this season.

Ream went 3-0 including a medical forfeit and two pins. Ranked 14th-nationally, Ream posted an 8-3 decision over 19th-ranked Luke Zilverberg of South Dakota State.

A first-time Bison Open champion was redshirt freshman 141-pounder Sam Hampton, who went 4-0 with three pins and a 14-0 major decision over South Dakota State’s Henry Pohlmeyer.

Another first-time winner was North Dakota State heavyweight Dan Stibral, while unattached freshman Brandon Metz was second. Stibral went 3-0 including a pair of pins, while Metz also went 3-0 including a 5-3 tiebreaker-1 overtime win.

The Bison also had a second showing from unattached freshman McGwire Midkiff at 133 pounds, 149-pounder Mitch Bengtson, and unattached sophomore Michael Otomo at 174 pounds. Third place finishers included redshirt freshman 125 Paul Bianchi, Kyle Gliva at 149 pounds, unattached freshman 174 Jesse Shearer,
