No. 19 Mavericks Outlast Minot State in Opening NSIC Dual
MINOT, N.D. — Minnesota State won seven out of ten matches at the Minot State Dome Saturday afternoon, defeating the Beavers 25-12 in their first NSIC Dual of the season.
With the win the Mavericks advanced to 2-0 overall on the season and are 1-0 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference dual meets. Minot State has fallen to 1-5 overall and are 0-1 in the NSIC.
Minnesota State registered four major decision victories in the dual, while Seth Elwood and George Farmah made their debuts for the Mavericks in dual matches.
Corey Abernathy extended the Maverick lead to 11-3 with a major decision against Keegan Berry, and Matthew Blome added a 3-0 decision at 197, making the score 14-3 and helping the Mavericks to take four of the first five matches.
Minot State brought the team score within two after winning by fall in the heavyweight match and earning a decision at 125. With the score 14-12 in favor of Minnesota State, George Farmah won a narrow 2-0 decision, and Louie Sanders put the match out of reach with an 18-4 major decision at 141.
Kyle Rathman won the last match of the afternoon, defeating Tanner Crissler by a 10-1 major decision and making the final score of the dual 25-12.
The Mavericks face a quick turnaround, traveling to Bismarck N.D. to grapple the University of Mary, Sunday at 2 p.m.
