The #1 ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team (6-0, 1-0 NSIC) scored a 43-3 victory at St. John’s University on Thursday, Dec. 28 in Collegeville, Minn.
The Huskies won nine of the 10 matches at SJU, with the lone setback coming at 133-pounds. SCSU opened the match with a 12-4 victory by #2 Brett Velasquez at 125-pounds. Ryan Rodorigo added a 15-6 major decision at 141 and Jake Barzowski added a 16-4 win over Anthony Hennen at 149.
At 184-pounds, Tyree Overton scored a 9-6 win over #10 Luke Dodd of SJU. The wins continued to roll in for SCSU at 197-pounds with a pin by #9 Vince Dietz over SJU’s Nick Pegelow at :30. The match was completed by a pin at 1:18 by #10 Lawrence Phillips over SJU’s Quincy Spiering at 285.
SJU is next in action on Jan. 6 at the Ridgewater College Open in Willmar, Minn.
SCSU will continue its 2017-18 season on Jan. 4-5 with match at the NWCA Division II National Duals in Fort Wayne, Ind. SCSU placed first at the NWCA DII National Duals in 2017.
