Vikings Host Augustana Duals on Saturday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana wrestling will host the Augustana Duals on Saturday, Dec. 9 with wrestling starting at 10 a.m. in the Elmen Center.

Teams competing in the Augustana Duals include Augustana, SMSU, Drury, Nebraska-Kearney, Morningside, and Northwestern (Iowa). The Vikings are set to dual against each team except for SMSU.

Augustana begins with Drury at 10 a.m., then will take on Northwestern (Iowa) at 11:30 a.m. The Vikings start the afternoon off against Morningside at 1 p.m. and conclude the day with Nebraska-Kearney at 2:30 p.m.

stanalogoLast weekend, the Vikings opened up the dual portion of their schedule at the South Dakota Showcase in Spearfish, S.D. and went 2-1. Augustana defeated Northern State (31-15) and Dakota Wesleyan (51-6) before falling to South Dakota State (49-0).

Scouting Drury
Drury has yet to compete in a dual this season and last season went 3-6 in duals. This season the Panthers in the Dan Harris Open, the Kaufman-Brand Open, the Joe Parisi Open and hosted the Drury Open. The Panthers are led by sophomore Jared Rennick who is ranked 12th nationally at 197 pounds with a record of 8-2.

Scouting Northwestern (Iowa)
Northwestern enters the Augie Duals with a record of 3-0 with wins over Buena Vista (20-18), Briar Cliff (19-17) and Doane (30-14). The Red Raiders are led by D’rell Gist (184 pounds) and Jacob Hergott (133 pounds) with each wrestler sporting a record of 9-4.

Scouting Morningside
Morningside will have its first dual of the season on Dec. 8 against Hastings before trekking up for the Augie Duals. The Mustangs have competed in the Dakota Wesleyan Open, the Nebraska-Kearney Open and the Buena Vista Open. The Mustangs are led by freshman Joey Cannon (285 pounds) who’s 11-4 with seven pins on the season and was last week’s GPAC Wrestler of the Week.

Scouting Nebraska-Kearney
Nebraska-Kearney comes into the Augie Duals with a record of 2-0 with wins over Fresno State (19-17) and San Francisco State (26-19). The Lopers have three wrestlers nationally ranked: Zach Stodden (174 pounds) is ninth, Kevin Barrett (285 pounds) is sixth and Matt Malcom (157 pounds) is tenth.
