Augustana’s Season Heats Up with the Heart of the NSIC Schedule Upcoming

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana wrestling team returns to the mat for a pair of duals this week. The Vikings open the week with a home NSIC dual against Southwest Minnesota State at the Elmen Center on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. Augustana will conclude the weekend by traveling to Moorhead, Minn. to take on MSU-Moorhead on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m.

The Vikings enter the week with a dual record of 6-2 (1-0 NSIC). Ben Kelvington and Clayton Wahlstrom lead Augustana with 17 wins apiece and Oscar Ramirez Jr. leads the team with a dual record of 7-1 at 149 pounds.

Augustana hosted Northern State to open the NSIC dual season and took down the Wolves, 36-6. The Vikings picked up a tech fall by Brandon Carroll (125), a major decision by Austin Jordan (141) and concluded the match with a fall by Lane Lettau (285).

Oscar Ramirez Jr. (149), Lukas Poloncic (174) and Aero Amo (184) each picked up decisions and Jebben Keyes (133) and Regan Bye (165) earned forfeit wins.

Scouting Southwest Minnesota State
SMSU brings a dual record of 4-3 (0-1 NSIC) into Thursday’s matchup against the Vikings. SMSU dropped its lone NSIC dual to No. 1 St. Cloud State, 39-4, on Nov. 30.

The Mustangs are led by junior Justin Haneke and sophomore Andrew Peterson. Haneke wrestles at 149 and has a record of 14-6 with a team-high seven falls on the year. Peterson is 12-7 at heavyweight with two pins.

Scouting MSU-Moorhead
MSU Moorhead enters the week with a dual record of 1-4 (0-2 NSIC), with conference losses to No. 10 Upper Iowa (30-6) and No. 20 Minnesota State (36-9).

The Dragons are paced by junior Adam Blees and freshman Cole Jones. Blees ranks eighth nationally at 174 pounds with a record of 12-4. Jones is 12-8 at 125 pounds during his freshman campaign.
