MANKATO, Minn.- Southwest Minnesota State wrestling returned to competition for the first time in 2018 on Saturday in the Minnesota State Duals in the Taylor Center.
SMSU dropped its first match, 32-12 to second-ranked Wisconsin-Parkside but rebounded with a 24-14 win over Central Missouri to wrap up the day.
Justin Haneke went 2-0 on the day with two pins including a win by fall over the No. 3 ranked wrestler at 149, Frank Yattoni of UW-Parkside.
Justin Haneke won by fall over the No. 3 ranked wrestler at 149 coming into the week, Frank Yattoni. The pin from Haneke gave SMSU a 12-7 lead over UW-Parkside after Taylor Curtis had won by forfeit at 125 to begin the match.
Haneke’s pin was his sixth of the season as he improved his record to 13-6 on the year after defeating Yattoni on Saturday.
UW-Parkside then went on to win the final six bouts with one pin and two major decisions.

SMSU vs Central Missouri
SMSU rebounded from its loss to UW-Parkside with a 24-14 win over Central Missouri to wrap up its day at the Minnesota State Duals.
Taylor Curtis (8-7) won by sudden victory as both teams split the opening two bouts. Central Missouri when ahead 8-3 after a tech fall at 141 before Justin Haneke (14-6) earned his second pin of the day and seventh of the season over Kaleb Warner at 149.
A win by decision for Cortez Arredondo (11-6) at 157 helped SMSU to a 12-11 lead when Griffin Osing won by fall at 174. Jackson Ryan (6-6) and Andrew Petersen (12-7) would seal up the win for the Mustangs with wins by decision at 197 and 285 respectively.
