Mustangs to host back-to-back NSIC duals

MARSHALL, Minn.- Southwest Minnesota State returns to its NSIC schedule this weekend with back-to-back duals against U-Mary and Minot State on Friday and Saturday respectively.

  • SMSU went 1-1 last week, with the largest win under Head Coach, Jesse Nelson in a 54-0 win over DWU followed by a 25-13 road loss at Upper Iowa
  • The Mustangs’ win over DWU was the first time SMSU had shutout an opponent since defeating Minot State, 40-0 back in 2013-14
  • The win over DWU was the first time SMSU had put up 50 points in a match since defeating St. Thomas 50-3 back in 2000
  • SMSU took advantage of three wins by forfeit against DWU
  • SMSU earned four wins as a team at Upper Iowa, but the Peacocks would pull away late
  • Taylor Curtis earned a 19-7 major decision on Wednesday night against DWU
  • Kegen Fingalsen, Griffin Osing, Cole Hennen and Jackson Ryan strung together four straight pins in the Mustangs big win over DWU
  • Cortez Arredondo (15-6) went 2-0 for SMSU wrestling at 157 with a 13-5 major decision vs DWU and a 2-1 decision at UIU
  • Fingalsen and Hennen also went 2-0 on the weekend with wins by decision at UIU to follow their respective wins by fall vs DWU

  • Justin Haneke (149) holds a 15-7 overall record on the year with eight total pins
  • Andrew Petersen (HWT) has a 15-7 record on the season with three pins
  • Cortez Arredondo (157)- has a 15-6 record on the season with a 3-1 record against NSIC opponents
  • Taylor Curtis (125)- has a 12-8 record on the season and is 2-2 in the Northern Sun
