West Virginia 19, North Dakota State 12

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia won 3 of the final 4 bouts to defeat No. 25-ranked North Dakota State 19-12 in a non-conference dual on Sunday, Jan. 7, at the WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers recorded their second straight win over a nationally-ranked opponent.

North Dakota State (5-5, 0-3 #Big12WR) is scheduled to host Wyoming (5-2, 1-1 #Big12WR) in a Big 12 Conference dual at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, in Scheels Center.

West Virginia (3-3, 2-1 #Big12WR) won the first bouts including major decisions from No. 17-ranked Zeke Moisey at 125 pounds and Christian Monserrat at 141 to take an 11-0 lead.

ndsulogo NDSU responded with three straight win to pull to within 11-9 of the Mountaineers. Bison 149 Kyle Gliva notched a 6-1 decision over Kyler Rea, No. 13 157-pounder Clay Ream rallied for a 7-4 decision over Zach Moore and No. 21 165 Andrew Fogarty held off Nick Klussis for a 10-6 decision.

It was the sixth straight dual win for Gliva, a senior from Inver Grove Heights, Minn. (Simley H.S.). He improved to 7-3 in duals and 17-8 overall. Ream survived another close encounter, posting his eighth dual win in nine tries, and stands 15-3 overall. Fogarty improved to 8-3 in duals, 24-6 overall.

North Dakota State heavyweight Dan Stibral ended the Mountaineers run with a 4-2 sudden victory-1 overtime decision over Brandon Ngati

The Bison dropped a pair of 1-point decisions down the stretch. Charley Popp’s rally fell short in a 5-4 loss to Parker VonEgidy at 174-pounds, while West Virginia’s No. 17 197 Jake Smith fought off a late charge from Cordell Eaton for a 6-5 decision. The Mountaineers lost a team point when Smith was called for unsportsmanlike conduct late in the bout.
