SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – With the 2017-18 wrestling season winding down the Augustana wrestling team will be put to the test. The Vikings travel to Fayette, Iowa to take on No. 6 Upper Iowa on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Dorman Gym.
The Vikings dual against the Peacocks will be their second to last dual of the season as they fight for the top spot in the NSIC. Augustana sits in a tie atop the NSIC with No. 1 St. Cloud State, both still unbeaten in conference duals. Augustana is 11-2 (6-0 NSIC) in duals on the year.
Senior Aero Amo leads Augustana as the lone Viking ranked in the NWCA DII Individual Rankings that came out on Jan. 18. Amo sits at No. 7 at 184 pounds with a record of 8-2 and a dual record of 8-1 (6-0 NSIC) on the season. As a team, Augustana is receiving votes in the NWCA DII Top-25 Poll.
Clayton Wahlstrom leads the team with 21 wins at 197 pounds and Oscar Ramirez Jr. has the top dual record of 12-1 at 149 pounds. Amo, Ramirez Jr. and Regan Bye (165) are each perfect in NSIC duals this season.
Last Time Out
Augustana won a pair of home NSIC duals last weekend, defeating Minot State (36-3) and U-Mary (26-10). Augustana finished its home dual schedule with a record of 7-1.
Aero Amo (184) and Lukas Poloncic (174) each recorded major decisions against Minot State and tech falls against U-Mary. Oscar Ramirez (149) went 2-0 on the weekend with a fall against Minot State and a decision against U-Mary.
Clayton Wahlstrom (197) went 2-0 with a pair of major decisions on the weekend and Keaten Schorr (141) was also undefeated with a tech fall against Minot State and a decision against U-Mary. Regan Bye (165), Luke Nohns (285), Brandon Carroll (125), and Ethan Cota (125) each earned a win

Scouting Upper Iowa
The Peacocks enter the week with a dual record of 9-3 and an NSIC dual record of 5-1. Upper Iowa’s only conference loss came on Dec. 9 at U-Mary (21-19), but the Peacocks have won five consecutive duals. Upper Iowa will travel to No. 1 St. Cloud State on Thursday, Feb. 8, before hosting the Vikings on Sunday.
The Peacocks have five ranked wrestlers led by No. 2 Logan Hopp at heavyweight. Hopp is 8-1 on the season and was an All-American last season. Other Peacocks ranked are Maleek Williams at 125 pounds (sixth), Josh Walker at 133 (sixth), Brock Benitz at 157 (seventh) and Jordan Gundrum at 174 (eighth).
Williams holds a record of 21-6 with eight falls and is a two-time qualifier for nationals. Walker is 25-6 on the year with eight falls, five tech falls and four major decisions and is a returning All-American from last season. Bentiz is a redshirt freshman who holds a record of 21-4 on the season with 13 falls. Gundrum is a junior who was a two-time JUCO All-American and is 19-6 this season with 11 falls.
Augustana wraps up the 2017-18 dual schedule with a battle against No. 1 St. Cloud State on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in St. Cloud, Minn.
