Northland qualifies five for NJCAA Nationals, edges Itasca and Ridgewater for runner-up spot

Northland finished second in the MCAC/Region 13 Tournament and is sending five wrestlers to compete at the NJCAA Wrestling Championships Feb. 23-24 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Richard Dralu, 165, Fargo, ND, and Hunter Roller, 184, Warren, MN, won region titles.

nctclogoRashidi Kikopa, Fargo, ND, wrestled to a runner-up finish at 141 pounds.

Kyle Fowler, 149, Thief River Falls, and Desmond Bradford, heavyweight, Augusta, GA, finished third and were awarded wildcard berths.

Also placing for the Pioneers were Devante Ryans, third at 174; Rees Lehman, fourth at 157; and Ryan Ford, fourth at 197.

Rochester claimed the team title with 88.5 points.

Northland’s runner-up finish was fueled by late heroics by Bradford, who pinned Itasca’s Hunter Koski in the final match of the day to push the Pioneers past the Vikings into second place.
