Six NDSU Wrestlers in NCAA Division I Coaches’ Panel Rankings & RPI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Six North Dakota State University wrestlers were listed in the second NCAA Division I coaches’ panel rankings and first ratings percentage index (RPI) released Thursday, Feb. 8.

Leading the way was NDSU redshirt senior 157-pounder Clay Ream who is ranked No. 9 by the coaches’ panel and No. 10 in the RPI. Ream, 20-3 overall and 14-1, is bidding for his fourth NCAA tournament bid.

North Dakota State redshirt freshman 125 Paul Bianchi (22-10, 10-6) is tied for No. 29 on the coaches’ panel and No. 17 in the RPI; redshirt sophomore 133 Cam Sykora (18-7, 9-4) is tied for No. 28 coaches’ panel and No. 28 RPI; redshirt senior 149 Kyle Gliva (20-10, 10-5) is No. 28 coaches’ panel and No. 24 RPI; redshirt sophomore 165 Andrew Fogarty (26-9, 10-6) is No. 22 coaches’ panel and No. 24 RPI, and redshirt sophomore 285 Dan Stibral (17-12, 7-9) is No. 33 coaches’ panel and No. 30 RPI.

ndsulogoThe final rankings will be one of the tools used as part of the selection process to determine the qualifiers for the 2018 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. This year’s event is March 15-17 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

Wrestlers in each weight class will be measured by winning percentage, rating percentage index (RPI) and coaches’ rankings to earn spots in their qualifying tournaments for the 2018 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The coaches’ rankings are compiled by a vote of coaches representing each qualifying tournament. For ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a starter at a respective weight class. To be eligible for the rankings, wrestlers must have participated in at least five matches against Division I opponents in the weight class and have wrestled within the last 30 days.

NCAA Division I Coaches’ Panel Rankings & RPI

North Dakota State (7-9 overall, 1-6 #Big12WR) is scheduled to close out the regular season at No. 12-ranked South Dakota State at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in Brookings. The Big 12 Wrestling Championships are scheduled for March 3-4 in the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
