St. Cloud State maintains #1 ranking in final Division II wrestling poll

The St. Cloud State University wrestling team (19-0, 8-0 NSIC) maintained its number one ranking in the latest NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association national poll.

The Huskies tallied 94 points in the poll, while Notre Dame of Ohio was second with 81 points. NSIC rival Upper Iowa was ranked #6 in the poll and Minnesota State Mankato was ranked #11. Augustana and Minot State also received votes in the poll.

scsulogo Individually, James Pleski led the Huskies with a #1 ranking at 149-pounds in this week’s poll. Larry Bomstad gained a number three ranking at 157-pounds for the Huskies. Vince Dietz (197-pounds), Brett Velasquez (125-pounds) and Vince Dietz (197-pounds) all earned fourth place rankings in this week’s poll, while Devin FitzPatrick tallied a number five ranking at 165-pounds and Kolton Eischens was ranked fifth at 174-pounds. At 141-pounds, Jarred Oftedahl was ranked number six and Tyree Overton was ranked seventh at 184-pounds. The group was completed by Lawrence Phillips with a #12 ranking at 285-pounds.

The Huskies recently completed its regular season with a 34-3 victory over NSIC rival Augustana. The win helped SCSU clinch sole possession of the NSIC championship, which marked SCSU’s seventh consecutive NSIC title.
