Augustana Brings on Four More to the 2018-19 Signing Class

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana head wrestling coach Jason Reitmeier has announced the addition of four wrestlers during the late signing period.

Bailey Brengle (Piedmont, S.D.), Luke Dahlen (Zumbrota, Minn.), Samuel Detert (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Jarret Haglund (Zumbro Falls, Minn.) have each signed letters of intent to continue their academic and wrestling careers at Augustana. The four will join Hunter Burnett (Pipestone, Minn.), Jack Huffman (Omaha, Neb.), Kolby Kost (Rapid City, S.D.), Jackson Stauffacher (Belle Plaine, Minn.), Michael Suda (Pipestone, Minn.), Jacob Tvinnereim (Jackson, Minn.) and Tyler Wagener (Waconia, Minn.) as the 11-member 2018-19 signing class for Augustana.

We not only got great athletes but great kids who take pride in their academics. We are also excited about the great families joining the Augustana wrestling community.”

The first day of the late signing period for collegiate wrestling programs was Wednesday, April 11.

Bailey Brengle | Piedmont, S.D. | Sturgis Brown HS | Weight Class: 165/174
High School: Will graduate in May of 2018 from Sturgis Brown HS … finished his high school wrestling career with a record of 196-38 … won state championships as a junior and senior … five-time South Dakota state placer … two-time team captain.

Personal: Son of Will and Jan Brengle … born in Piedmont, S.D. on June 18, 2000 … plans to major in Biology … older brother, Tanner, is a part of the Augustana wrestling team.

Reitmeier on Brengle: “We are excited to have another Brengle join the Augustana Wrestling Family. Bailey is a winner and has won at every level. He is exceptional in all positions on the mat and has a passion for the sport. I am looking forward to watching him continue to mature and grow as an Augustana student-athlete.”

Luke Dahlen | Zumbrota, Minn. | Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS | Weight Class: HWT
High School: Will graduate in June of 2018 from Zumbrota Mazeppa HS … wrestled two years in high school with a record of 13-23 … helped his team to a pair of state championships … two-time letterwinner.

Personal: Son of David and Anne Dahlen … born in Zumbrota, Minn. on May 17, 2000 … plans to major in Biology.

Reitmeier on Dahlen: “Luke is a teammate of Jarret Haglund at Zumbrota. Luke is another big guy that started wrestling later and has found a real passion for the sport. We are excited to have Luke’s energy and passion in the room and look forward to watching him grow in the sport of wrestling”

Samuel Detert | Sioux Falls, S.D. | Harrisburg HS | Weight Class: HWT
High School: Will graduate in May of 2018 from Harrisburg HS … two-time state placer and three-time state qualifier … placed fourth at state as a senior and seventh as a junior … posted a high school record of 85-70 … Academic All-State as a senior.

Personal: Son of Mike and Kris Detert … born on June 14, 1999 … plans to major in Biology.

Reitmeier on Detert: “We were in the need for big guys and Samuel fills the need. He started wrestling later than most and has made up ground quickly. We think Samuel has a huge upside and will continue to get better each year. Samuel is another exceptional student-athlete who excels in the classroom.”

Jarret Haglund | Zumbro Falls, Minn. | Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS | Weight Class: 197/HWT
High School: Will graduate in June of 2018 from Zumbrota Mazeppa HS … three-time state qualifier … state runner-up as a junior … MSHSL Section 1A champ as a senior … Academic All-State as a junior and senior … All-Conference as a senior … helped his team to a pair of state championships.

Personal: Son of Rob and Lauren Haglund … born in Rochester, Minn. on Oct. 2, 1999 … plans to major in Biochemistry.

Reitmeier on Haglund: “Jarret is a big strong young man, who comes from a great wrestling program.  Jarret is exactly what we are looking for in a student-athlete. He is extremely smart and is driven to succeed both on the mat and in the classroom.  Jarret has very high goals and has the work ethic to achieve them.”
