Eight Gophers Gearing Up for U23 World Team Trial

The University of Minnesota will send eight wrestlers to Akron, Ohio at the Louis and Freda Stile Athletic Field House for the U23 World Team Trial, which runs from June 1-3. U23 freestyle wrestling will not begin until the morning of June 2.

Steve Bleise (70kg), Ben Brancale (65kg), Carson Brolsma (74kg), Brandon Krone (86kg), Mitch McKee (65kg), Chase O’Connor (97kg), Skyler Petry (57kg), and Steve Polakowski (61kg) will represent the Maroon and Gold.

minnlogoMcKee returns with the most success on the U23 stage. The soon-to-be junior earned a silver medal at the Junior World Championships in 2017 in Finland. Brolsma also has had success in freestyle this summer with his U.S. Open top seven finish along with being a member of Minnesota Cadet and Junior National teams.

Wrestlers will take part in the tournament, and the finalists will wrestle in a best-of-three series to determine who will represent the USA in Bucharest, Romania.

Participating athletes are students who are currently officially registered as proceeding towards a degree or diploma at a university or similar institute whose status is recognized by the appropriate national academic authority of their country. All competitors must be U.S. citizens – born 1995-1999 (19-23 years old). 2000 with medical certificate.
