Mavericks Name Individual Award Winners for 2017-18

Mankato, Minn. — The Minnesota State wrestling team has named the recipients of its team awards for the 2017-18 season.

The award winners are listed below.

  • manklogoZach Johnston (Sophomore, Waukee, Iowa) – Most Valuable & Hardest Worker – Compiled a 24-8 record including a 10-1 dual record and a tournament mark of 13-7… NCAA Division II All-American… Seventh Place NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships… Second place at NCAA Division II Super Region Three tournament… First place at Buena Vista Open… NSIC First-Team All-Conference.
  • George Farmah (Junior, St. Paul, Minn.) – Top Newcomer – Crafted a 13-7 overall record including a 7-3 mark in duals and a 6-4 tournament record… NCAA Division II All-American… NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships Runner-Up at 133-pounds… NCAA Division II Super Region Three Runner-Up at 133-pounds… Rated as high as ninth in the NWCA Individual Rankings.
  • Seth Elwood (Junior, Faribault, Minn.) – Most Improved – Sixth-place finish at Augsburg College Open… Second-place finish at Buena Vista Open… NCAA DII Regional Champion at 165-pounds… Super Regional Outstanding Wrestler award winner… NCAA Division II All-American… NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships qualifier… Eighth Place at NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships… Rated as high as fifth at 165-pounds in the NWCA Individual Rankings during the course of the season.
  • Logan Saltou (Sophomore, Rochester, Minn.) – Hustle & Purple Heart – Sported an overall record of 7-5 in second season of college wrestling… Appeared in a single dual against UW-Parkside… Third-place finish at the Buena Vista Open… Fifth-place finish at the Luther College Open… NSIC Winter All-Academic Team member.
  • Chris Zimmer (Senior, Walker, Minn.) and Chadon O’Fallon (Senior, Shakopee, Minn.) – Lifter of the Year – Zimmer appeared in eight dual matches picking up victories over Saint John’s, Central Missouri and Northern State… NSIC Winter All-Academic Team member.
    O’Fallon went 7-5 in 2017-18 wrestling in open tournaments… Third-place finish at the Buena Vista Open… Fourth-place finish at the Augsburg College Open… NSIC Winter All-Academic Team member.
  • Trenton McManus (Redshirt Freshman, Adams, Minn.) – Coaches Award – Lettered in first year as a member of the varsity. Pushed the starters at 125 and 133 helping them with workouts on the road and assisting George Farmah with his preparations at the National Tournament.

Minnesota State owned a 7-4-0 dual mark in 2017-18 and placed tenth at the 2017-18 NCAA Division II national championship tournament.
