MSUM Wrestling Coach Kris Nelson to be Inducted into Bison Hall of Fame on Friday

FARGO, N.D. – Minnesota State University Moorhead head wrestling coach Kris Nelson will be inducted into the North Dakota State Bison Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday.

This year’s class will bring the total of inductees to 290. The induction will be held on Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the Nodak Insurance Basketball Performance Center at the SHAC in Fargo.

moorlogo Nelson was a decorated wrestler at NDSU from 1995-2000. His career was highlighted by winning the NCAA Division II National Championship at 133 pounds in 2000, when he was also named Most Outstanding Wrestler. He was part of two national championship teams at NDSU 1998 and 2000). The native of Lisbon, N.D., was also fourth at 126 pounds in 1998 and seventh at 133 pounds in 1999. He finished with 83 career match wins and also was a two-time NCC champion at 133 pounds.

After completing his wrestling career, Nelson spent nine years as an assistant at NDSU, including five as a full-time assistant. Nelson graduated from NDSU with a bachelor’s degree in physical/health education and also earned a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in athletic administration.

Nelson was named the MSUM head wrestling coach in 2009 and has coached five All-Americans at MSUM.
