The 2018 Junior World Championships are underway in Trnava, Slovakia, where University of Minnesota wrestler Gable Steveson will look to capture his fourth consecutive world championship.
Gable has won three previous world titles up to this point in time. The four-time state champion from Apple Valley won Cadet World Championships in 2015 and 2016 and moving up an age-group in 2017, Stevenson won five matches on his way to claiming the top spot on the podium and a Junior World Championship. Steveson’s first-place finish in 2017 helped the USA capture their first Junior Men’s Freestyle World Team Title since 1984.
The Gopher freshman will compete in the freestyle event at the 125-kg weight class at the Junior World Championships. The 125-kg draw will take place Friday with wrestling beginning early Saturday morning.
