St. Cloud State University head wrestling Coach Steve Costanzo has named Vince Dietz, Travis Swanson, Ryan Rodorigo, Chance Helmick, Lawrence Phillips, Tyree Overton, Taner Trembley and Brett Velasquez as team captains for the upcoming 2018-19 wrestling season at St. Cloud State.
This group will help lead the defending national champion Huskies, who have gained NCAA II titles in 2015, 2016, and 2018 and have also won seven consecutive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference titles in 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012.
“These eight individuals have played an important role in the success of our program during their time on campus,” Costanzo said. “They are leaders on the mat, in the classroom, and in the community. I am certain they will help carry on the proud tradition of SCSU wrestling in 2018-19.”
SCSU posted a 19-0, 8-0 NSIC record in 2017-18. The Huskies have gone 55-0 in NSIC dual meets over the past seven seasons and they have not lost a conference match since Jan. 27, 2011. Costanzo begins his 13th season with the Huskies in 2018-19.
The Huskies will kick-off their 2018-19 season on Nov. 1st with the annual Red/Black Classic intrasquad match at 7 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall. Fans will also want to mark Dec. 8 on their calendars as that is the day for the 2018 Holiday Inn/Huskies Open in Halenbeck Hall.
