Gopher Wrestling Announces 2018 Promotions

With the season beginning Sunday at the Daktronics Open in Brookings, S.D., the University of Minnesota is happy to announce their 2018 promotions. The promotional schedule includes a variety of activities, ticket deals, community day ticket discounts, and select dates featuring Gopher wrestling Youth Clinics. Youth Clinic ticket packages include clinic instruction, a free clinic t-shirt, youth ticket to the dual, and recognition in between matches.

The Gophers home opener will take place on Sunday, Nov. 18 with a dual against Oklahoma State University kicking off with a Season Tune-Up promotion. Special youth activities will be set around the concourse at Maturi Pavilion to help get everyone ready for the first match. The home opener will serve as the St. Michael and Medina Community Day.

Minnesota takes on South Dakota State a week later on Nov. 25 on Super Hero Day. Additionally, Gopher wrestling will team up with Takedown Cancer to raise funds for cancer research and patient aid programs. Our match against the Jackrabbits will be on Hugo, Maple Grove, and Anoka Community Day.

After more than a month away from home, the Gophers will return for their first Big Ten conference dual against Rutgers on Jan. 6. Prior to the match, Minnesota will host their first of three Youth Clinics and after the match fans are encouraged to stick around as the wrestlers will be signing autographs. The Rutgers dual will also serve as the Shakopee Community Day.

The Gophers will next host Big Ten rival Iowa on Lego Day on Sunday, Jan. 13. When Minnesota welcome the Hawkeyes to the Pav, fans in attendance will have a chance to win some of our special Lego giveaways.  The Gophers will celebrate Apple Valley, Eden Prairie and Inver Grove Heights Community Days against Iowa.

Minnesota will then wrestle three out of four conference duals at home to finish their Big Ten schedule. On Sunday, Feb. 3 the Gophers will host a “Takedowns before Touchdowns” pre-match event against Purdue. Celebrating the Soup-er Bowl, fans can bring in two canned food items for a special ticket discount. Purdue will serve as the Goodhue, Zumbrota and Lake City Community Day.

On Sunday, Feb. 10 the Gophers welcome Maryland on Military Appreciation Night. Pre-match, Minnesota will conduct their second of three Youth Clinics and welcome the communities of Rochester, Kasson and Grand Meadow for Community Day.

The Gophers wrap up their Big Ten dual schedule against Indiana on Sunday, Feb. 17 and will welcome New Prague, Prior Lake and Waterville on their final Community Day. Minnesota will also host their final Youth Clinic before taking on the Hoosiers, while students in attendance can take part in the “Backpack Lizak” student promotion. Gopher wrestlers will be present to sign autographs after the match.
