Jones and Schumacher Ranked in National DII Wrestling Coaches Association Rankings; Dragons Picked 6th in NSIC

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Two Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestlers are ranked in the top 12 of their weight divisions in the rankings released by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.

Sophomore Cole Jones was ranked 11th at 125 pounds while Joe Schumacher is ranked ninth in the nation at 149 pounds. MSUM is receiving votes in the poll.

moorlogoJones made an immediate impact on the Dragons as a freshman, finishing with a 20-13 overall record, leading the team in wins. He accumulated a 5-3 record in NSIC matches and finished fifth at the Super Region 3 tournament. Schumacher was a midseason transfer from Division 1 Oklahoma State who racked up a 6-2 overall record, with a perfect 4-0 record in NSIC matches. He also finished fifth at the Super Region 3 tournament.

MSUM was selected to finish sixth in the NSIC this season according to the preseason coaches’ poll released on Wednesday. St. Cloud State, the defending national champions were picked to win the conference, with Upper Iowa picked to finish second.

Senior Adam Blees was chosen as MSUM’s wrestler to watch in the coaches’ poll. Blees finished last season with a 17-10 record, with a 4-4 record in NSIC matches. The three-year starter has amassed 49 wins in his MSUM career. He finished fourth at the 2017 UNK Holiday Inn Open and finished fourth at the Bison Open.

NCAA DII Wrestling Coaches Association Rankings – October 29, 2018

The Dragons will open the season on Nov. 10 at the NDSU Bison Open. Their first home event is Nov. 30 when they host NSIC foe Northern State.
