The three-time NCAA Division II national champion St. Cloud State University wrestling team spent this past weekend retreating at “The Costanzo Ranch,” in preparation for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
“We would like to thank the Costanzo Family for their hospitality in allowing SCSU wrestling to do their annual team retreat on their property,” said SCSU assistant coach Travis Holt. “Our guys really look forward to this weekend during the year. The retreat gives our team a chance to get away from the day-to-day grind of academics and training and get to know one another. The retreat is one of the most important early season events that we engage in as a team.”
The Huskies enjoyed an annual chili feed dinner and took part in friendly games of activities throughout the evening. In keeping up with tradition, Husky wrestlers and coaches gathered around the evening campfire to discuss team goals, expectations and of course a good old joke.
“I felt like this was a great event for our guys,” said assistant coach Brady Wilson. “Team building is so important among athletic teams. We really needed this time together to get to know one another and understand what each of us expects from this season.”
The Huskies open up their 2017-18 campaign on Thursday, November 1, as they host their Annual Black/Red Classic. The Huskies’ 2018 NCAA Division II national championship banner will also be unveiled after the Black/Red Classic matches on Nov. 1 in Halenbeck Hall.
