The Gophers started their season off in style at the Daktronics Open in Brookings, S.D. over the weekend. Minnesota gained seven individual champions and placed 19 total in top-3 places at the tournament.
In what was a wild weekend for the Gophers, Ethan Lizak claimed his third-straight Daktronics title while going 4-0. Mitch Mckee is now a two-time champ after his title at 141. Sean Russell and Gable Steveson finished at the top of their brackets in their first action in the Maroon & Gold. The Gophers continued to roll with Steve Bleise, Carson Brolsma and Dylan Anderson all finishing with unblemished records and championships at 157, 165, and 197.
The Gophers will next take on Air Force at USAF Academy, Co. this Friday at 8:00 p.m. ct. The University of Minnesota Wrestling Gala is quickly approaching and will take place Saturday, Nov. 17 ahead of the Oklahoma State dual Sunday afternoon.
