NDSU Hosts Northern Illinois on Thursday, 48th Annual Bison Open on Saturday

No. 22-ranked North Dakota State (1-0, 0-0 #Big12WR) is scheduled to host Northern Illinois (0-0, 0-0 MAC) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Scheels Center … NDSU will then host the 48th annual Bison Open starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in the Scheels Center … The tournament field includes wrestlers from No. 11 Arizona State, No. 13 Minnesota and No. 19 South Dakota State, along with Minnesota State Moorhead, Minot State, Northland CC and Itasca CC.

NDSU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council will be accepting non-perishable food items and monetary donations Thursday for the Summit League Food Fight, an annual competition among league schools … All donations benefit the Fargo-Moorhead Emergency Food Pantry Last year, NDSU collected nearly 7,000 pounds of food.

Bison Open with 26-17 Win Over No. 17 Northwestern
North Dakota State received pins from 125 Brent Fleetwood and 165 Andrew Fogarty, along with a tech fall from 184 Tyler McNutt to defeat No. 17-ranked Northwestern in a non-conference dual on Sunday, Nov. 4, in the Scheels Center … NDSU #20 133 Cam Sykora defeated #14 Colin Valdiviez 4-0 in the nationally-ranked match-up … It is the third straight season the Bison have defeated a nationally-ranked opponent.

NDSU Takes Six Titles at Jamestown’s Jimmie Open
North Dakota State wrestlers took home six individual titles at the University of Jamestown’s Jimmie Open on Saturday, Nov. 3, including unattached 133 McGwire Midkiff (4-0); unattached 165 Jimmy Noel (4-0, 2 pins); 174 Jesse Shearer (4-0, 2 pins); 184 Michael Otomo (3-0); 197 Cole Witzig (3-0, 1 pin), and 285 Dan Stibral (4-0, 1 pin).

Six Current NDSU Wrestlers Have Bison Open Crowns
Six current North Dakota State wrestlers have won at least one Bison Open individual entering this weekend … NDSU redshirt juniors Cordell Eaton and Andrew Fogarty each have won three — Eaton all at 197 pounds, and Fogarty one at 157 and two at 165 pounds … Redshirt senior Tyler McNutt has claimed a pair, one each at 165 and at 184 pounds … Redshirt sophomores, Taylor Nein and Sam Hampton, have won at 141 pounds in 2016 and 2017 … Redshirt junior Dan Stibral is the defending 2017 champion at 285 pounds … NDSU has had at least one wrestler win a Bison Open title for 11 straight seasons.
