SMSU wrestlers head to BVU Open on Saturday

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team returns to action at the Buena Vista Open hosted by Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, this Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

Competition will begin at 9 a.m. and will include 300 wrestlers from 18 different schools.

smsulogoSMSU (0-1, 0-1 NSIC) fell 35-6 to the defending national champion and top-ranked, St. Cloud State (2-0, 1-0 NSIC), in the conference and home opener of the season on Thursday night.

Andrew Petersen (HWT) and Cortez Arredondo (157) earned the Mustangs’ only two bout victories of the match after both wrestlers win by decision (5-3).

Petersen and Arredondo are among the 23 SMSU wrestlers to compete this weekend.
