St. Cloud State Wrestling to host Chadron State on Nov. 15

Match has been designated as Youth/Prep Night

The #1 ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team will open its 2018-19 dual match season on Thursday, Nov. 15 with a 7 p.m. match in Halenbeck Hall against non-conference rival Chadron State University.

The match has been designated as Youth/Prep Night and all children in grades K-12 will be admitted to this NCAA dual match for just $1.00. Tickets will be available at the gate on the night of the match in Halenbeck Hall.

SCSU WRESTLING NEWS AND NOTES:

  • The Huskies captured the top spots at eight of the 10 weight brackets on the day at the Dakota Wesleyan Open on Nov. 10.
  • SCSU will open its Dual Meet season with a Nov. 15 match at home against Chadron State.  SCSU was 19-0 in dual matches against last year.  The Huskies also won the 2018 NSIC championship with an 8-0 record.
  • SCSU has not lost a dual match since a 22-17 setback vs. Indianapolis on Jan. 14, 2017.  The Huskies have since won 28 consecutive dual matches.
  • SCSU received a #1 ranking in the NCAA DII preseason rankings and the Huskies have won NCAA DII championships in 2015, 2016 and 2018.  The Huskies have also won seven consecutive NSIC championships under the leadership of head coach Steve Costanzo.
  • The Huskies have only lost seven dual matches since 2010-11.  SCSU is 149-7 in dual matches during that stretch of time.
  • Zach Muller won top honors at the 285-pound bracket at the Dakota Wesleyan Open with a 5-0 record on Nov. 10.
  • #1 James Pleski won the Dakota Wesleyan Open title at 149-pounds with a 4-0 record.
  • #10 Devin FitzPatrick won the top spot at the Dakota Wesleyan Open with a 5-0 record in the 165-pound bracket.
  • At the Dakota Wesleyan Open, SCSU also shared bracket titles at 125-pounds, 133-pounds, 157-pounds, 174-pounds, and 197-pounds.
  • Vince Dietz, Travis Swanson, Ryan Rodorigo, Chance Helmick, Lawrence Phillips, Tyree Overton, Taner Trembley, and Brett Velasquez have been named as team captains for the upcoming 2018-19 wrestling season at St. Cloud State.
  • SCSU wrestlers ranked in the DII preseason poll included #2 Brett Velasquez (125), #7 Adam Hedin (141), #1 James Pleski(149), #10 Devin FitzPatrick (165), #3 Kolton Eischens (174), #1 Vince Dietz (197) and #5 Lawrence Phillips (285)
