Dragons Host No. 1 Ranked Augsburg on Thursday

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team will welcome one of the top teams in Division 3 on Thursday night when the Augsburg Auggies make the trip to Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse. The dual starts at 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on msumdragons.com.

The Dragons most recently competed at the Dragon Open, where they won three individual championships (sophomore Cole Jones, redshirt freshman Mason Schulz, and sophomore Sam Erckenbrack). They also had three runners-up (Seth Hutchison, Braydon Ortloff and Evan Foster).

moorlogoThey started the weekend hosting Northern State in an NSIC dual that they won 25-12 thanks to seven wins, including redshirt freshman Justin Dravis winning his match at 165-pounds via pin and Erckenbrack winning his match at 285-pounds in overtime.

Jones leads the Dragons with a 14-3 record. Other Dragons to have double-digit wins on the season include Evan Foster (12-4), Samuel Erckenbrack (12-4), Mason Schulz (11-5) and Braydon Ortloff (10-5).

Head coach Kris Nelson is in his 10th season as head coach. He is assisted by Blake Bosch (second season), Tyler Lehmann (second season) and Justin Solberg (fourth season).

About the Auggies
The Auggies have yet to compete in a dual match this season, but have competed in two invitational tournaments. They opened the season at the Auggie-Adidas Invitational where they had nine champions crowned, including co-champions in the 149-pound bronze division. The Auggies also competed at the Luther L. Hill Invitational where they won the team championship with 159.0 points. The Auggies crowned two individual champions, with Alex Wilson winning the title at 149-pounds and Ryan Epps winning at 165-pounds. Wilson (8-0) and Epps (9-0) are both ranked first in the nation.

Upcoming Schedule
This will be the final home event for MSUM until Jan. 26 when they host Upper Iowa. During that time the Dragons will compete at the Midwest Classic on Dec. 15 and the Menlo Invitational on Jan. 5. They will also have a nonconference dual against San Francisco State on Jan. 4.
