STORM LAKE, Iowa – Henry Pohlmeyer, Tanner Sloan and Blake Wolters each won individual titles, while Clay Carlson and Zach Price shared top honors in the 141-pound division to lead a South Dakota State wrestling contingent Saturday at the Buena Vista Open.
A junior from Johnston, Iowa, Pohlmeyer dominated the 149-pound division in posting a 5-0 record on the day. He pinned each of his first four opponents before defeating Kyle Rathman of Minnesota State, Mankato, 6-0, in the championship match.
Sloan, a freshman from Alburnett, Iowa, continued his strong showings in open tournaments by outscoring his opponents by a combined 64-4. He won three of his matches by technical fall, including a 16-1 victory over Kobe Woods of Wartburg in the championship bout.
Wolters, a sophomore from Pipestone, Minnesota, claimed the heavyweight division with a 5-0 record. He defeated Charles Griffin of Ellsworth Community College, 3-1, in the title tilt.
Also reaching the final round was freshman 184-pound Russell Rucklos. He won his first three matches before dropping an 11-8 decision to Trevor Turiff of MSU, Mankato.
Other placewinners for the Jackrabbits included: Martin Mueller, fourth at 197 pounds; Spencer Huber, fifth at 133 pounds; Logan Peterson, fifth at 165 pounds, and Samuel Grove, eighth at 184.. A returning NCAA qualifier, Mueller was wrestling for the first time since the season-opening Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open.
