RCTC Yellowjacket Moreno Wins Husky Open Championship

This past Saturday the Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjackets wrestled in the always competitive St. Cloud State Husky Open. The Jackets placed seven in the tournament with Morgen Moreno (Hayfield, MN) winning the 197 championship.

Moreno started his day with a pin over Gabe Anderson of Mary. He followed that match with a pin over Jonathan Zarnke of Augsburg. In the finals, Moreno pinned Noah Ryan of St. Cloud State. Moreno’s three straight pins also landed him the pin award for the tournament.

Falling just short in the finals was Shane Siewert (Lake City, MN) at 174. Siewert put together three wins on his way to the finals. In the finals Siewert lost to Hunter Grau of St. Cloud State.

The Yellowjackets had several other wrestlers place in the tournament including Dillon McGee 141 6th (Nevis, MN), Tyler Zeman 149 5th (LaGrange Park, IL), Jeremiah Colon 174 5th (Madelia, MN), and Alex LaPierre 184 5th (Roseville, MN).

“This team is really coming together and we are excited to see them compete as a dual team at the national duals,” said coach Randy Rager.

The Yellowjackets wrestle next at the NWCA National Duals in Louisville, KY on January 4th and 5th.
