STORM LAKE, Iowa – Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team placed eight wrestlers at the Buena Vista Open on Storm Lake, Iowa on Saturday afternoon.
Cole Hennen (184) earned the best place of the day earned third at 184. Hennen two bouts by decision with a 3-0 and a 3-2 victory over Samuel Grove (South Dakota State) and Jacob Wiley (Morningside). Hennen dropped the semifinal match by major decision (14-1) to Trevor Turrif (Minnesota State Mankato). Hennen then won by 16-0 tech fall over Justin Henry (Wartburg) to secure the third place victory.
Ben Emrich wrestling unattached at 125 went 2-2 on the day to earn fourth place. Emrich earned a win by fall at 1:45 over Marcelo Perez from Briar Cliff and a win 18-6 major decision victory over Lucas Hagel (MSU Mankato) before falling to Brady Kyner (Wartburg) in a fall at 1:18 and fell to Dalton Kivett (Briar Cliff) in a 7-3 decision bout.
Arredondo earned two victories by tech fall with a 16-0 victory over Joaquin Bautista (Wartburg) and 16-0 over Ben Peters (Briar Cliff). Arredondo then lost by tech fall with a 17-1 loss to Cross Cannone from Wartburg before earning three more victories; a fall at 1:27 over Dalton Lakmann (South Dakota State), a 14-5 win by major decision over Max Forsyth (Wartburg), and a victory by rule over Dakota Drenth (Morningside).
Osing earned two victories by decision with a 7-0 and a 7-4 victory. Osing earned three victories by fall at 0:56 over Reymundo Vasquez (Iowa Central, fall at 4:02 over Zyire Ardoin-Dural (Briar Cliff) and fall at 2:46 over Adriane Kedekein (Ellsworth CC). Osing’s solo loss of the day against Derek Lee Loy for Wartburg who earned a sudden victory win over Osing (SV-1 7-5).
Hunter Connor wrestled unattached at 185 to go 2-2 on the day to earn 6th place and Ben Thompson went 5-1 to earn 6th. Connor earned a win by fall at 2:12 over Trajae Lackland (Iowa Central) and a victory by medical forfeit. Thompson won by tech fall (15-0) over Jonathan Garcia (Briaf Cliff), a 7-0 decision victory over Austin Angle (Ellsworth), and a won 8-0 win by major decision over Elijah Dirkx (Morningside). Thompson’s only loss of the day game in the fifth place as Trevor Walton took the bout with a 13-2 win by major victory.
Andrew Petersen wrestled at 285 to go 5-1 on the day and earn 7th and Justin Haneke earned 8th going 3-2.
Southwest Minnesota State continues action Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Doane University (Neb.) Open in Crete, Neb., and the St. Cloud Open in St. Cloud, Minn.
