COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – No. 22 Concordia-Moorhead won seven matches in a 31-12 win over Saint John’s on Friday, Jan. 25, in Collegeville.
Junior Noah Becker (Browerville, Minn.) improved to 21-2 this season, his 10th consecutive win and 19th in his last 20 matches, with a 6-1 decision at 133 pounds for SJU (1-4 dual record). Ahead 2-1 late in the match, Becker was awarded a point for stalling with 49 seconds left, escaped and recorded a takedown for good measure to seal the victory.
Junior Jerod Novak (Aitkin, Minn.) brought the Johnnies to within three (12-9) with a pin at 157 pounds, but the Cobbers (7-3 dual record) answered with three straight bonus-point wins to clinch the dual win.
Senior Luke Dodd (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) won his fifth straight bout, moving his season record to 11-3, with a grueling 5-4 victory at 197 pounds.
SJU hosts the annual North Country Open at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, in Sexton Arena. The tournament will showcase over 150 wrestlers from across the Upper Midwest, including Division I Minnesota, North Dakota State and South Dakota State, as well as Division II St. Cloud State and top-ranked (Division III) Augsburg.
Concordia competes next at the Don Parker Open in Eau Claire, Wisc. on Saturday, February 2nd.
