Gophers wrestling satisfied with season start, but tougher Big Ten schedule (and Iowa) soon

Gophers wrestling coach Brandon Eggum believes his team can be one of the best in the nation this season.

“Our goal is to get some hardware at the end of the year,” Eggum said. “At the beginning of the year, I know a lot of people thought that it would be a hefty statement to make, but I think people can see that Minnesota is really in good standing here.”

The eighth-ranked Gophers are 7-1 in nonconference duals this season, with their only loss coming to No. 2 Oklahoma State, 23-9, on Nov. 19.

A source of optimism for Eggum is how three of their four wins at the South Beach Duals were against ranked teams — No. 13 North Carolina, No. 16 Lehigh and No. 22 Utah Valley. Continue reading at www.twincities.com
