Ortloff Pin Helps Dragon Wrestlers Down Minot State, 24-13

MINOT, N.D. — After falling behind 10-6, the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team rattled off five straight wins on its way to a 24-13 win over Minot State in NSIC action Saturday in Minot, N.D.

MSUM is now 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC while Minot State fell to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the league.

“It was good to see the team bounce back from Friday’s loss to Mary,” MSUM head coach Kris Nelson said. “There were a lot of tight matches and it was nice to see our guys come away with wins.”

Freshman Braydon Ortloff earned a win by fall for MSUM to pick up his second win of the weekend.

The Dragons won the first two matches of the dual. Sophomore Cole Jones opened with a 10-5 win over Dean Arevalo at 125, and sophomore Seth Hutchison followed with a 12-6 win at 133 to give the Dragons a 6-0 lead.

Minot won the next two matches by major decision and pin to take a 10-6 lead. After that, MSUM took control.

Ortloff’s pin at 157 of Max Miller in 4:20 helped MSUM regain the lead at 12-10.

“He was in a tight match but broke it open in the second period and got us much-needed bonus points with a pin,” Nelson said.

Redshirt freshman Justin Dravis (165), senior Adam Blees (174), redshirt freshman Evan Foster (184) and junior Mitch Kotschevar (197) all won by decision to help MSUM put the match out of reach. Foster and Kotschevar won their matches by 3-2 scores.

MSUM is back in action on Jan. 17 at Augustana for a 7 p.m. dual.
