Oles in action at North Country Open

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Seven members of the St. Olaf College wrestling team competed against NCAA Division I, II and III opposition at the North Country Open, hosted by Saint John’s University at Sexton Arena on Saturday.

At 133 pounds, junior Luke Wallace lost his first match by fall (1:26) to Noah Becker of Saint John’s and his second by fall (1:58) to Logan Mahoney of the University of Mary.

First year Joaquin Montero, first year Adam Bass, sophomore Charles Gieser and junior Bryant Ridgway all wrestled in the 157-pound bracket. After a bye, Montero was pinned at 1:26 by Jacob Tvinnereim of Augustana. Bass lost both his matches by fall to Devin Steidler of the University of Mary (1:42) and Kevin Bostwick of Southwest Minnesota State (2:05)

Gieser went down via fall to Jerod Novak (1:11) and Caleb Jungling of Saint John’s (2:40), while Ridgway lost major decisions to Anthony Velazquez of the University of Mary (16-2) and Dalton Lakmann of South Dakota State (15-2).

In their first collegiate meets, first years Partev Galstyan and Zhanat Seiktuzhin were in action in the 174 and 197-pound brackets. Galstyan was pinned by Augsburg’s Luke Wilson (0:45) and St. Cloud State’s Luke Clark (2:01), while Seitkuzhin lost by fall to Rylee Streifel of the University of Minnesota (0:45) after a first-round bye.
