NCAA champion Seth Gross announced Thursday night that his injury-abbreviated season has come to an end.
The South Dakota State senior 133-pounder said he’ll undergo season-ending back surgery next week. Gross has been limited to one match this season and hasn’t competed since Nov. 11.
“Unfortunately, I will not be wrestling this year and I won’t be at the national tournament or anything like that and I will actually be undergoing surgery next week on Wednesday,” Gross said in a message posted on Twitter. “After a lot of thought and consideration I decided this is the best option moving forward for my future in the sport and outside of the sport. My biggest goal is to be an Olympic and World champion and to do that I feel this is something I need to deal with right now, instead of prolonging the issue and making it worse.
