Two Gophers Claim Titles at Worthington Open

As the Gophers starting lineup claimed two road Big Ten victories over the weekend, two Gophers claimed individual titles at the Worthington Open and a third placed fifth.

174-pound Bailee O’Reilly and 184-pound Caden Steffen took home titles while 133-pound Jake Gliva finished in fifth place. All three Gophers in the competition placed on the podium.

O’Reilly won all his matches by bonus points and finished the tournament outscoring his opponents 30-4 with his last two matches decided by fall (3:34) and injury forfeit.

Steffen, a freshman, had bonus points in his first two matches before securing victory by decision in the semifinals and championship round. He outscored his opponents 44-9 on the road to the Open title.

Gliva won his first bout by major decision 11-3 but fell by decision in his next bout. The freshman bounced back by winning his following two bouts by a combined score of 34-7 and finished off the competition with a 7-2 decision to claim fifth place.
