MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team will compete this Saturday at the NCAA Division II Super Regional V Tournament at Alex Nemzek Hall in Moorhead, Minnesota.
The Super Regional tournament V includes nine NSIC wrestling institutions and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The top three finishers in each weight class will qualify for the NCAA Championships that will be held on March 8-9 at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
Competition begins on Saturday with the first session beginning at 10 a.m. and the second session beginning at 6 p.m.
SMSU head coach Jesse Nelson’s expected line-up for the weekend has seven wrestlers that competed in last season’s region championship, including Cortez Arredondo, who advanced to the NCAA championships a season ago.

Last Season at NCAA Regional
Southwest Minnesota State finished with a total 42.5 points to tie for seventh place out of 15 schools, at last season’s Super Region III Tournament in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Arredondo finished second to advance to the NCAA championships.
Griffin Osing lost 3-0 in the consolation third round, while Petersen finished fifth after falling in the consolation fourth round.
Arredondo was Southwest Minnesota State’s last NCAA National Qualifier since heavyweight Cole Wilson in 2016.
Since moving to NCAA Division II in 1996, SMSU has qualified 44 wrestlers to the NCAA Championships with 12 All-Americans and one National Champion—Link Steffen in 1998.
