Poloncic and Wahlstrom Named NSIC All-Conference

Seniors earn a spot on the second team

BURNSVILLE, MINN. — The 2018-19 NSIC Wrestling All-Conferences teams were announced as the regular season concluded last week. Two Viking student-athletes were named to the NSIC All-Conference wrestling team on Thursday as Lukas Poloncic and Clayton Wahlstrom earned Second Team All-Conference honors. Twenty wrestlers represent the prestigious group in the NSIC.

Poloncic earned a spot on the second team after an impressive senior season at 174 lbs. posting a record of 15-8 overall, with an 8-1 record in duals. The Gillette, Wyo. native took down a pair of ranked opponents during the dual season by defeating then No. 4 ranked Zach Johnston of Minnesota State and No. 2 Kolton Eischens of St. Cloud State.

Wahlstrom finished the regular season with a record of 26-12 overall, with an 8-1 duals record at 197 lbs to earn a spot on the second team. The senior defeated his first eight opponents during the duals season to help the Vikings to a 5-4 record. Earlier this year, Wahlstrom also helped the Vikings knock off then No. 19 Upper Iowa with a 3-1 decision over then No. 9 Nick Baumler.

Both redshirt seniors, Wahlstrom and Poloncic were also key in a comeback against Minot State earlier this season. Trailing late in the match, the pair both recorded falls in two of the final four matches for a comeback, 21-18 win.
