St. Cloud State maintains number one ranking in latest NCAA DII national poll

The St. Cloud State University wrestling team (17-0, 5-0 NSIC) maintained its number one national ranking in the latest NWCA Division II wrestling poll released on Feb. 4.

The Huskies received the top spot in both the tournament rankings poll and the dual rankings poll released by the NWCA. In the tournament rankings poll, SCSU posted 102 points and Nebraska-Kearney was second with 69 points. NSIC rivals Minnesota State was ranked #10, UMary was ranked #20 and Upper Iowa was ranked #22. Augustana, Northern State and Southwest Minnesota State both received votes in the poll.

In the dual rankings, SCSU had 150 points to rank first ahead of second place Notre Dame (Ohio) with 144 points. Minnesota State was ranked #10, Augustana #14 and Northern State was #25.

The Huskies will face two top NSIC opponents this week with a dual match at Upper Iowa on Feb. 7 and a home dual match vs. Minnesota State on Feb. 9. The match on Feb. 9 has been designed as SCSU Senior Day and Prep Day. All youth up to grade 12 will be admitted to this match for just $1.00.

Individually, SCSU had wrestlers ranked in all 10 weight brackets in the latest polls.

At 125-pounds, Brett Velasquez was ranked second in the poll, while Garrett Vos earned a #11 ranking at 133-pounds. At 141-pounds, SCSU’s Garrett Aldrich moved up to #7 in the poll, while James Pleski jumped up one spot to #2 in the poll at 149-pounds. Jake Barzowski was rated #6 at 157-pounds in this poll, while Devin FitzPatrick was ranked #11 at 165-pounds. At 174-pounds, Kolton Eischens moved up to #2, while Chance Helmick returned to the national poll this week with a #4 ranking at 184-pounds.

At 197-pounds, undefeated senior Vince Dietz maintained his #1 national ranking in the poll, while Zach Muller returned to the poll with a #11 ranking at 285-pounds.
