Minnesota Veterans/Masters level wrestlers prepare for World Championships

Lou Orr and Rudy James have been practicing this summer as they prepare for the Third Annual Masters World Cup Team Tournament.

Lou and Rudy will compete at Chaparral High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 7th, 2019.

During October, the duo will head to Tbilisi, Georgia, to compete in the United World Wrestling (UWW) Veterans/Masters Freestyle and Greco-Roman Championships.

Lou has previously competed in the world championships in Finland in 2016 in Greco, Bulgaria in 2017 in Freestyle, and Macedonia in 2018 in Freestyle.

He is a five-time USA Wrestling Masters Division Folkstyle National Champion at 78 kgs, 85 kgs, and heavyweight. Lou earned 4th place and 5th place finishes in USAW Freestyle and has placed 3rd three times in USAW Greco-Roman. He also coaches and trains the Winona State University Wrestling Club.

Rudy is a returning triple crown champion, having claimed the USAW Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco-Roman national titles in his Master’s Division in the spring of 2019. He has previously placed at the UWW Championships several times, including Freestyle by earning three world silver medals at 78 kgs in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Rudy is hoping to bring home the Gold medal this year in Freestyle and place in Greco-Roman.

Rudy is a former two-time All-American wrestler for Northern Montana University in Havre, Montana, and two-time state runner-up at Cerritos College – California Junior College, Norwalk, California.

He is currently an Associate Head Coach for the Apple Valley High School wrestling team and has been training with the Minnesota Wrestling Training Center with Coach Dan Chandler and Dave Zuniga.

The 2019 United World Wrestling Veterans Freestyle & Greco-Roman World Championships take place on October 8th-13th in Tbilisi, Georgia.
