Minnesota wrestler Emily Shilson went 1-2 at the UWW U23 World Championships competing on October 30th-31st in Budapest, Hungary.
Shilson, who wrestled at 50 kg (110.2 lbs.), lost to Kika Kagata of Japan 8-3 in her first match.
Shilson was pulled into repechage when Kagata won in the semifinals. The Japanese wrestler would go on to win the gold medal.
In her first repechage match, Shilson topped 2015 Junior World champion and four-time World medalist Turkan Nasirova of Azerbaijan 12-10.
Shilson was eliminated from competition when she fell 10-0 in her next bout to 2018 U23 World silver medalist and 2011 Cadet World champion Nadesha Sokolova of Russia.
Shilson is currently a freshman on the new Augsburg Women’s Wrestling team.
The 2019 U23 World Championships runs from October 28th through November 3rd.
