Augustana Battles Arizona State in 35-6 Defeat

LinksTEMPE, Ariz. — Sophomore Daniel Bishop pinned Arizona State’s Roman Rozell at 0:54 as the Augustana wrestling team fell 35-6 in its first dual of the season to national contender, and No. 8 ranked, Arizona State on Friday night in Tempe, Arizona, at Desert Financial Arena.

The night started with redshirt freshman Michael Suda battling No. 24 Brandon Courtney closely in a 9-8 loss at 125 pounds. After redshirt freshman Jack Huffman lost 11-2 by major decision at 133 pounds, junior Jebben Keyes took the mat for the Vikings at 141 pounds. Keyes owned a point due to riding time advantage while trailing 4-3 and was poised to give the Vikings their first points of the day with less than a minute to go in his match. However, Arizona State’s Navonte Demison recorded a late takedown and defeated Keyes 6-3.

At 157 pounds, redshirt freshman Jacob Tvinnereim nearly upset Arizona State’s Dillon Ulrey, but fell in a 9-7 decision. After recording major decisions at 149, 165 and 174 pounds and a fall at 184 pounds, Arizona State took a commanding 31-0 lead over Augustana.

The lone points for Augustana came from Daniel Bishop’s fall at 0:54 over Arizona State’s Roman Rozell. After the fall, Arizona State led 31-6 and finished with a major decision at 285 pounds to take the match 35-6.
