Cobber Top 2 Finishes Highlight Eau Claire Invite

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Concordia continued their upward trend just three days after going toe-to-toe with Division II Northern State as they captured three weight-class titles and had three other runner-up finishes at the Wis-Eau Claire 8-Man Battles Invite. The Cobbers finished second in the final team standings.

The lighter weight classes carried the day for Concordia with Cole Kubesh, Jacob Prunty, and Cade Lundeen winning the 125, 133 and 141-lb weight classes.

Prunty was a perfect 4-0 at 133. He won his first match with a 10-6 decision and then recorded three straight tech falls to win the weight class.

Cade Lundeen was also perfect on the day as he went 3-0 at 141. Lundeen scored all three of his wins by a pin. He won his first match in 1:25 and didn’t have to go to the third period in any of his three matches.

Kubesh lost in the sudden victory period in his first match but then rattled off three straight wins to claim the championship at 125. He had a pair of tech falls and a pin on his way to the title.

Alex Skaare, Ian Frenzel, and Gabe Zierden all finished second for the Cobbers.

Skaare went 2-1 at 165. He posted a major decision in the semifinals but then fell in the championship match. Frenzel also went 2-1 and finished second at 174. He recorded a pair of decisions on the way to the title bout. Zierden fell in his first match but then won three straight to come away with a runner-up finish at 197. Zierden claimed a pin in his second match and then posted a pair of decisions.

Alex Backes, Kellen Schauer, and Gabe Allen were the other Cobber wrestlers who had at least two wins on the day. All three athletes went 2-1 and all three finished in fifth place. Backes was fifth at 141, Schauer was fifth at 149 and Allen claimed his fifth-place finish at 157.

UP NEXT: Concordia will have a two-week break for the Thanksgiving holiday and return to action when they compete in the Neb. Wesleyan Prairie Wolf Duals on Saturday, Dec. 7.
