MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Saint John’s wrestling returned to action Saturday, Nov. 23, at Augsburg’s annual Auggie-Adidas Invitational in Minneapolis.
Sophomore Jacob Scherber (Buffalo, Minn.) took sixth at 174 pounds with a 2-2 record. He started his day with a 6-3 decision before falling to Augsburg’s Nick Rogge in the quarterfinal, 13-9. Scherber bounced back with a 9-2 before exiting the tourney via fall to Dalton Nelson of Division II Upper Iowa.
Freshman Mason Nibbe (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central Area) was the other Johnnie with multiple wins on the day, as he claimed third in the silver bracket at heavyweight. He followed a 9-2 first-round win with a narrow 3-2 loss to Gage Wevley of Division II Southwest Minnesota State. Nibbe recorded a pin in the third-place match over Cameron Mitchell of NAIA William Penn (Iowa).
