MOORHEAD, Minn.—The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team will travel to Minneapolis, Minn., on Saturday for the Auggie Invitational, hosted by Augsburg University. The tournament begins at 9 a.m.
Last Saturday, the Dragons went to Concordia-Moorhead for the Finn Grinaker Open. Sophomore Braydon Ortloff and sophomore Evan Foster led the way for MSUM with runner-up finishes. Ortloff went 3-1 at 157 pounds. He opened the first championship round by pinning Northern State’s Bryan Burnett in 3:13. Ortloff’s only loss came against UMary’s Braydon Huber in the finals. Foster also went 3-1 at 174 pounds.
Foster also opened round one by pinning his opponent, Minot State’s Isaac Bertalotto, in 4:19. Foster’s only loss was in the finals against St. Cloud State’s Devin Donovan.
Sophomore Mason Schulz has a record of 4-3 this season at 141. Schulz had a strong showing at the Finn Grinaker, going 4-1. In the third-place match, Schulz pinned Northern State’s Wyatt Turnquist in 0:33 to secure a third-place finish.
Junior Mitch Kotschevar has a record of 5-3 at 184. Kotschevar opened round one of the Finn Grinaker with a win over Concordia-Moorhead’s Jake Arends in a 9-2 decision. In the third-place match, Kotschevar beat UMary’s Grant Litke in a 5-3 decision to secure third-place.
Senior Zachary Scott is 7-4 on the season at 141. At the Finn Grinaker, Scott placed fifth with a win over UMary’s Chandler Mooney.
Head coach Kris Nelson is in his 11th season as head coach of the Dragons. He is assisted by Justin Solberg (fourth season), Tyler Lehmann (third season), and Jake Lords (first season).
Following the Auggie Invitational, the Dragons head to Aberdeen, S.D., to take on Northern State on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.
